Be different. Be social.

Remember those days in gym class when we felt nervous if we would be the last person to be chosen in the team? Or those days when we felt like being the odd one out, the lone person in the corner of a room? Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with being different. In fact being different separates you from the rest. But there’s a fine, fine line between being outstandingly different and being different that nobody else would want to be associated with you.

This is the simple formula of building links. One wants to be exceptionally different, not to be part of the familiar and the ordinary, in order to be noticed by all. One way for your website to be recognized and acknowledged by others is through the means of social bookmarking. An increase in the number of social bookmarking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Digg, etc., has generated one way links that drive link building opportunities. A simple “like”, a soundless “tweet” or an effortless “digg” can deliver astounding results.

Social bookmarking has a vital role in integrating various communities in today’s digital world. It links an idea from one side of the world to an appreciation or approval from the other side of the globe by a simple click. The rampancy of this has led to the emergence of social media agencies offering social bookmarking services.

In this fast world of social media, in order to be on top of the game, all you need is to be different, to be distinct because for most occasions, it pays to be the odd one out.
